During the WGC-Cadillac Championship, McIlroy was so angry after hitting a poor second shot, he flung his 3-iron into the lake.
In an interview with ESPN, McIlroy said tour officials noted his remorse after the round.
"The fine was reduced from $25,000 to $5,000 because I said I was sorry in the TV interview afterward," McIlroy said.
