St. Louis Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree could miss 8-12 weeks with a right ankle injury that will require surgery.

As for his roster status, the Rams must determine whether injured reserve-designated to return is a feasible option for Ogletree. If not, he would be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Ogletree has played well for the Rams at weak-side linebacker. He was injured Sunday in the St. Louis victory at Arizona.

Filling Ogletree's spot isn't simple in head coach Jeff Fisher's defense.

Special teams captain Daren Bates, 24, is likely to be promoting to a starting role with a challenging first assignment -- facing Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau Field.
