Current manager Dan Jennings is expected to go back to serving as the club's general manager after the season. He took over after the Marlins fired Mike Redmond in May.

Porter previously worked for the Marlins as their third base coach from 2007 to 2009. He was hired by the Astros as their manager in 2013 and held the job for almost two years before he was fired Sept. 1, 2014, with a record of 110-190.

A month later, Porter was hired by the Atlanta Braves as their third base coach
