Cleveland Cavaliers finalize deal to re-sign J.R. Smith

The Cleveland Cavaliers officially re-signed guard J.R. Smith on Wednesday.

The team did not disclose terms of the contract, but The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reported the deal is for two years and worth $5.5 million per season.

Smith had opted out of the final year of his previous contract worth $6.5 million to pursue a long-term deal.

In 70 regular-season games for the Cavs and the New York Knicks last season, Smith averaged 12.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals. His 163 3-pointers ranked 11th in the NBA and Smith led the team in steals-to-turnover ratio at 1.23.

The 29-year-old Smith played in an additional 18 games during the playoffs and averaged 12.8 points and 4.7 rebounds as the Cavs reached the NBA Finals.

The 6-foot-6 Smith has averaged 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steal in 11 seasons and 762 games with New Orleans, Denver, New York and Cleveland.

With 1,475 3-pointers, he stands 24th in NBA history.
