Notre Dame's Greg Bryant declared academically ineligible

By The Sports Xchange

Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant is academically ineligible and will miss the 2015 season, the school announced Tuesday.

Bryant was the second leading rusher for the Fighting Irish last season with 289 yards on 54 carries. He will remain on scholarship and be allowed to practice with the team but will not be included on the 105-player roster.

Bryant's father, Greg Sr., confirmed to IrishIllustrated.com that his son was academically ineligible and said he will not report to preseason camp but plans to be on campus when classes begin later in the month.

"There are certain expectations within our program that must be met on a daily basis," Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. "Quite simply, Greg did not meet those expectations."

Bryant, who also returned eight punts for 94 yards last year, already had been suspended for the first four games this season after a violation of team rules.

With Bryant out, the bulk of carries likely will fall to Tarean Folston and C.J. Prosise.
