The San Francisco 49ers put running back Carlos Hyde back on the active roster Wednesday after placing him on the active/non-football injury list a day earlier.

The 49ers have not disclosed Hyde's injury. It's believed that Hyde had a strained calf during the 49ers' organized team activities.

Hyde is expected to take over as the 49ers' lead back this year after the departure of veteran Frank Gore, the franchise's career rushing leader who signed in the offseason with the Indianapolis Colts.

The 49ers' veterans report to training camp at the team's Santa Clara, Calif., headquarters on Friday and begin practices on Saturday night at Levi's Stadium.

Hyde rushed for 333 yards and four touchdowns on 83 carries and added 12 receptions for 68 yards as a rookie last season for San Francisco.
