Brooklyn Nets deal G Blake to Detroit Pistons

By The Sports Xchange

The Brooklyn Nets traded guard Steve Blake to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for forward Quincy Miller, the teams announced Monday.

For the Nets, the deal appears to be a cost-saver.

Blake, 35, never played for the Nets. He was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in a draft-day deal along with the rights to forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Blake has played for seven NBA teams in his career, and he averaged 4.3 points and 3.6 assists for the Trail Blazers last season. Blake is scheduled to be paid $2.2 million next season, so the Nets are ridding themselves of that financial obligation.

The 6-foot-10 Miller has a non-guaranteed contract, and multiple media outlets reported the Nets plan to waive Miller in the next day or two, so they will owe him nothing.

Miller, 22, averaged 2.9 points and two rebounds in a total of 10 games for the Sacramento Kings and the Pistons last season.

The Nets also waived Cory Jefferson and his $845,000 salary on Monday, providing the team with more options under the salary cap.

Blake's contract will fit under the Pistons' $2.8 million exception for cap purposes. The Pistons needed the trade to be completed before guard Reggie Jackson signs his five-year, $80 million contract. Blake gives Detroit a fourth point guard.
