American goalkeeper Brad Guzan was tested early by Honduras. He made a close-range save on Anthony Lozano's attempt in the third minute and put a long shot from Bryan Acosta over the crossbar a few minutes later.

Honduras cut the lead to 2-1 in the 70th minute on a goal by substitute Carlos Discua.

Honduras created several chances in the final 10 minutes but could not come up with the equalizer.
