Free agent forward Jason Smith is leaving the New York Knicks for Orlando, reaching agreement with the Magic on a reported one-year, $4.5 million contract Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Smith averaged eight points and four rebounds for the Knicks last season, starting 31 games and playing in all 82.

The NBA has a moratorium on making deals official until Thursday, but Smith confirmed the move on Twitter.

"So thankful for the opportunity the Knicks gave me this season truly a world class organization. Thank you New York!"

Smith's salary was $3.2 million with the Knicks last season. The 7-foot-1 journeyman has played with four teams in eight seasons after being drafted in the first round by the Miami Heat in 2007.
