PRESS BOX: Pierre-Paul's burns could affect contract talks

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is being treated for multiple hand injuries incurred while helping light fireworks Saturday night.

Pierre-Paul, who was offered a one-year franchise tender for the 2015 season of $14.813 million as the Giants franchise player, had burn-related injuries to his palms and possible nerve damage according to multiple reports. Pierre-Paul has not signed the deal.

NFL Network reported Monday, citing three sources, that the Giants pulled a long-term offer worth at least $60 million. The report claimed concerns over Pierre-Paul's judgment and health.

--The Tennessee Titans open training camp July 30 but still don't have first-round quarterback Marcus Mariota signed to his rookie contract.

Mariota, the second overall pick, is the only unsigned first-round pick from the 2015 NFL Draft, but there doesn't appear to be panic on either side.

Mariota recent told FOX Sports he is "not worried about it at all."

AUTO RACING

--The spectacular and terrifying last-lap crash that sent Austin Dillon's car airborne into the catch fence has drivers and fans concerned after watching the accident early Monday morning in the Coke Zero 400.

A multi-car wreck at the end of the race in Daytona Beach, Fla., sent Dillon's car into a flip before it came to rest upside down with its engine and other parts scattered in the infield grass. Dillon was not injured.

One fan was sent to a local hospital in stable condition, then treated and released. Four fans were treated and released by track medics and eight declined treatment.

NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway officials said the review of the horrifying crash is already underway to see if anything more can be done to keep the cars on the ground.

The catch fence was torn down in the section where Dillon hit.

BOXING

--The WBO stripped Floyd Mayweather of his welterweight world title after he failed to surrender his titles from two other organizations.

Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in a 147-pound unification fight. He earned more than $220 million from the most lucrative fight in history.

He was supposed to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee by last Friday and vacate the middleweight titles he also holds from the WBC and WBA. Boxers are not allowed to hold world titles in multiple weight classes, but the WBC and WBA had been breaking their rules.
