Grand Slam of Golf to move from Trump course

By The Sports Xchange

The PGA of America announced Tuesday that it will pull the Grand Slam of Golf event from Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles this fall.

The organization's decision came in the wake of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's controversial comments about Mexican immigrants.

The 36-hole exhibition for the year's major champions is scheduled for Oct. 20-21. The PGA is currently looking for another venue.

In a meeting on Monday, the two parties agreed that it was in the best interest of both sides that the event move elsewhere this fall.

Trump said in a statement that he did not want his comments to be damaging and that plans to use the time to rebuild the course along the Pacific Ocean.

"I have great respect for the PGA of America and everything they stand for," he said.

Other PGA of America tournaments scheduled for Trump courses that could be subject to review are the 2017 Senior PGA in Washington and the 2022 PGA at Trump Bedminster. There are also still three years remaining on the contract between Trump and the Grand Slam.

The PGA Tour also plays at tournament at a Trump course -- the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral -- and said it plans to monitor the situation.
