Texas Rangers' Hamilton now dealing with groin strain

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who did not play Saturday, is now dealing with a groin strain.

Hamilton came out of Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels after the seventh inning. He was playing for the first time against his former team, which traded him to the Rangers after two disappointing years with Los Angeles.

Hamilton, who signed a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels in December 2012, went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's game.

The Rangers re-acquired Hamilton from the Angels on April 27 while he was on the disabled list recovering from Feb. 4 surgery on his right shoulder. Hamilton didn't make his season debut until May 25, and he hurt the hamstring several days later.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Saturday was a planned day off but did not get specific with what was ailing Hamilton except to say that his "whole lower half" has been an issue since Hamilton went on the DL with a left hamstring strain after an injury May 31, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Hamilton returned on Tuesday from a month-long stint on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, and the veteran went 2-for-4, scored a run and made a nice sliding catch in Texas' 8-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

"Obviously, we'll see where he is throughout the night," Banister said Saturday. "We'll continue to try to manage how he feels. This is a guy we'd like to have for an extended period of time. I'm trying my best to figure this whole thing out with him and what is best for Josh."

Hamilton is hitting .303 with two home runs and five RBIs in 10 games this season.
