Jumping at the chance to return home to California and to reunite with the coach who led him to an NBA championship, forward Paul Pierce agreed to a three-year, $10 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported.

The 37-year-old veteran turned down a deal with the Washington Wizards that would have paid him $6.6 million in the coming season, with a team option for a second year, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Clippers are coached by Doc Rivers, who teamed with Pierce to win a title in 2008 with the Boston Celtics.

Los Angeles' deal with Pierce is for the mid-level exception amount. The Clippers are attempting to re-sign center DeAndre Jordan, but Pierce figures to become a starter right away alongside the team's two All-Stars, power forward Blake Griffin and point guard Chris Paul.

Pierce started all 73 games he played for Washington last season, averaging 11.9 points, four rebounds and two assists. In the postseason, he averaged 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists while hitting 52.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.

He played the previous season with the Brooklyn Nets after spending the first 15 seasons of his career in Boston.

A 10-time All-Star, Pierce ranks fourth in NBA history with 2,053 3-pointers made and 5,531 attempted. He is 19th on the NBA points list, with 25,899, and seventh with 6,854 successful free throws.
