Phoenix Suns land Chandler, retain Knight

By The Sports Xchange

The Phoenix Suns reached a contract agreement with veteran free agent center Tyson Chandler and guard Brandon Knight on Wednesday.

According to reports, the Suns lured Chandler away from the Dallas Mavericks with a four-year, $42 million deal and kept Knight in Phoenix with a five-year, $70 million contract.

The contracts can't be signed officially until July 9 according to league rules.

The 32-year-old Chandler, who entered the NBA out of high school in 2001, spent two seasons in Dallas, including the championship year in 2011. He moved to the New York Knicks in free agency after that season and then back to the Mavericks in a June 2014 trade.

Last season with the Mavs, Chandler averaged 10.3 points and 11.5 rebounds and shot 67 percent from the field.

With Chandler in the fold, the Suns met with free agent LaMarcus Aldridge on Wednesday and included the newcomer Chandler in the meeting.

Knight, 23, was acquired in a three-team trade with the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers in February and averaged 13.4 points and 4.5 assists in 11 games for the Suns. Ankle and heel injuries limited his playing time.
