Kyle Hendricks tossed six shutout innings and the Chicago Cubs blanked the New York Mets 1-0 in the opener of a three- game set.
Hendricks (3-4) struck out six, scattered three hits and walked one for the Cubs, who snapped a five-game skid. Their 19 one-run wins this season are the most in MLB.
Jason Motte fired the ninth to notch his third save of the year.
Jon Niese (3-8) allowed a run on four hits and four walks over seven innings for New York, which had its four-game winning streak come to an end.
Daniel Murphy was the only Met to reach scoring position. He hit a one-out double in the fourth, but Michael Cuddyer struck out and Wilmer Flores popped out to end the frame.
The lone Chicago run came in the sixth. Kris Bryant walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on Chris Denorfia's groundout and scored on Matt Szczur's double into left-center.
Chicago had chances to score in the second and third innings. Hendricks struck out looking with runners on second and third with two outs in the second and the Cubs stranded the bases loaded in the third when Denorfia flew out to center.
