"(UW athletics director) Barry (Alvarez) encouraged me to take some time and think about it and I have done that," said Ryan. "I am looking forward to another year with our program..."

Ryan added that he hopes longtime assistant Greg Gard will be named the new head coach.

Ryan has a 740-228 career coaching record, including a 357-125 mark at Wisconsin. The Badgers went 36-4 last season, advancing to the national championship game before losing to Duke.
