Jantel Lavender's 18 points and Temeka Johnson's 17 with 10 assists wasn't enough for the still-winless (0-5) Sparks.

Ruffin-Pratt's triple with 3:03 left in the half gave Washington a 56-53 and the hosts did not relinquish it for the duration.

Nneka Ogwumike's shot just over 2 1/2 minutes into the fourth pulled Los Angeles within one, 66-65, for the final time in the contest.

Tayler Hill sank a triple off a Meesseman rebound to up the lead to four, and Ruffin-Pratt hit 3-of-4 from the line later to extend the edge to 76-70.

Lavender's hook shot made it an 80-78 game with 16.8 showing, but Bria Hartley and Natasha Cloud converted free throws thereafter to salt away the victory.

Washington led 22-21 after one and kept a slim 39-37 edge at the break.
