Bolelli, Giraldo advance in rainy Nottingham

Italian Simone Bolelli and Colombian Santiago Giraldo were among the first-round winners on a rainy Monday at the Aegon Open Nottingham, a final grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.

Bolelli handled Japanese qualifier Go Soeda 6-3, 6-2, while Giraldo held off Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Some additional opening-round wins came for Britain's Aljaz Bedene, Tunisian Malek Jaziri and Israeli qualifier Dudi Sela.

Fourth-seeded Argentine Leonardo Mayer was tied with Korean Hyeon Chung at 1-1 in the first set of their second-round match when play was called for the day.

Top seeds David Ferrer and Gilles Simon are scheduled for second-round matches on Tuesday, as Ferrer will take on former Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.
