Goldschmidt, D-backs beat Angels

Paul Goldschmidt continued producing with three more hits, including a three-run homer that sparked the Diamondbacks past the Angels 7-3 on Monday.

Yasmany Tomas added a solo homer, and Robbie Ray (2-1) limited the Angels to two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Diamondbacks, who were coming off a three-game road sweep of the Giants, were leading 5-0 before their bullpen gave up three runs in the eighth.

Addison Reed entered with the bases loaded and uncorked a wild pitch to bring in a run, and Mike Trout followed with a two-run double. Albert Pujols nearly tied it with a home run, but his fly ball was caught on the warning track for the final out.

Arizona padded its lead in the ninth. With runners on the corners, Cliff Pennington placed a perfect bunt down the first-base line to bring in a run, and Nick Ahmed avoided a swipe tag at the plate to score on A.J. Pollock's sacrifice fly.

Reed stayed on for the ninth to close out the win.

Welington Castillo and Pollock both worked walks in the third inning in front of Goldschmidt, who crushed his 18th home run of the season to straightaway center for break the scoreless tie.

Ahmed doubled leading off the fifth and scored on a Kyle Kubitza error, and Tomas took Jered Weaver deep in the sixth for a 5-0 cushion.

Weaver (4-7) dropped his third straight start after allowing five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over seven innings.

Ray faced the minimum through five and did not allow a hit until Daniel Robertson singled with two away in the sixth.

Goldschmidt upped his league-leading batting average to .366 ... D-backs outfielder Ender Inciarte exited with a strained right hamstring.
