Rays sign Sizemore to minors deal

Veteran outfielder Grady Sizemore has joined the Tampa Bay Rays on a minor league contract, two weeks after being released by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Sizemore was officially cut loose by the Phillies on June 1. The injury-prone three-time All-Star hit .245 with five doubles and six RBI prior to being designated for assignment.

The 32-year-old returned to the majors after a three-year absence with the Boston Red Sox last season, but was released in June and later caught on with the Phillies. Philadelphia re-signed Sizemore to a one-year deal in October after he batted .253 with three homers and 12 RBI over a 60-game stint with the club.

Sizemore, who will presumably join the Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham, earned American League All-Star honors for three straight seasons with the Cleveland Indians from 2006-08.
