Nuggets set to name Malone new head coach

The Denver Nuggets are reportedly set to hire Mike Malone as their new head coach.

Yahoo! Sports cited a league source as saying Malone has agreed to a four-year deal with the Nuggets, who were also apparently considering interim coach Melvin Hunt for the full-time position.

Hunt took over on March 3 after Bryan Shaw was fired in his second season with the club. The Nuggets finished the 2014-15 campaign 30-52, including 10-13 under Hunt.

Malone was fired by the Sacramento Kings last December after an 11-13 start. The Kings were 9-6 before DeMarcus Cousins fell ill with a viral infection and the resulting 2-7 mark cost Malone his job. He was in his second season with Sacramento and finished his brief tenure with a record of 39-67.

Before taking over as Kings coach, Malone had been an assistant with New York, Cleveland, New Orleans and Golden State.
