The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Holliday, who is hitting .303 with three home runs and 26 RBI along with 10 doubles in 52 games this season, exited Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies with a right quad strain.

To fill the roster slot, the Cards summoned pitcher Miguel Socolovich from Triple-A Memphis.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan right-hander has gone 2-0 with a 1.17 earned run average in seven previous appearances in the majors this season. He also put together a 1-1 record and 0.54 ERA in 10 games with Memphis.
