Cubs ink Rafael Soriano to minor league deal

The Chicago Cubs and free-agent reliever Rafael Soriano agreed to terms on a minor league contract Tuesday.

Soriano spent the past two seasons as the closer for the Washington Nationals, recording 75 saves. He was 4-1 with 32 saves and a 3.19 ERA in 2014.

The 35-year-old right-hander has a career record of 22-28 with 207 saves and a 2.85 ERA in 585 games, all but eight as a relief pitcher. He began his big league career with the Seattle Mariners in 2002 and has also pitched for the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees.

Soriano was an American League All-Star with the Rays in 2010 when he registered a personal-best 45 saves.
