Riske, Davis post wins in Nottingham

Americans Alison Riske and Lauren Davis were among Monday's first-round winners at the Nottingham Open tennis event, a grass-court tune-up for Wimbledon.

The fifth-seeded Riske rolled over China's Zheng Saisai 6-3, 6-4, while the unseeded Davis upended eighth-seeded Croat Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Another upset came when Belgian Yanina Wickmayer doused fourth-seeded Italian Karin Knapp 6-4, 6-2.

There were also a couple American losers on Monday, as Serb Bojana Jovanovski outlasted Nicole Gibbs 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and Croat Ana Konjuh drilled Shelby Rogers 6-0, 6-3.

One other result saw Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni get past Stefanie Voegele, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 on a rainy Day 1.

This week's top-three seeds -- former Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas and American Varvara Lepchenko -- will all see action on Tuesday.

The newest Nottingham champion will collect $43,000.
