Messi's magic leads Barca to Copa del Rey title

Lionel Messi scored a goal in each half to help Barcelona to a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in the final of the Copa del Rey, marking the 27th time that Barca has won the competition.

Messi opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a brilliant individual effort before Neymar added a second goal prior to halftime.

A third goal arrived for the Catalan side in the 74th with Messi finding the net once more before Inaki Williams pulled a goal back for Bilbao 10 minutes from time.

Barcelona will now attempt to capture the club's second treble next weekend when the club faces Juventus in the Champions League final.

Messi broke the game open in the 20th minute when he took the ball on the right wing and danced past three defenders before getting into the penalty area and cutting back past another. He then finished off his brilliant move by lashing a shot past goalkeeper Iago Herrerin at the near post.

Herrerin made a nice save on Gerard Pique's close-range effort to keep his team within a goal, but Barca doubled the lead in the 36th with a nice team move.

Ivan Rakitic slipped a pass into the box for Luis Suarez, and he quickly squared the ball to a wide open Neymar for a simple tap-in.

Williams tried to pull his team back to within a goal in the 41st with a volley from inside the area, but his effort clipped the top of the crossbar.

Barca took its foot off the pedal a bit in the second half, but Messi made it 3-0 in the 74th when he got to the front of goal to redirect a low cross from Dani Alves past Herrerin.

A flicked header from Williams in the 80th spoiled Barca's clean sheet, but it wasn't enough to make much of a difference.
