Mariah Stackhouse rallied to beat Hayley Davis and give Stanford the title at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday.
Stackhouse was 2-down with two holes to play at Concession Golf Club with the team match all square at 2-2. Stackhouse birdied the 17th and 18th to force extra holes. Davis missed a 3-footer that would have extended the match to a 20th hole.
The rally gave fourth-seeded Stanford a 3-2 win over third-seeded Baylor in the first NCAA Women's Championship decided in a match play format.
Stanford won the first two matches before Baylor won the next two. Casey Danielson birdied the 18th to earn a 2-up win over Laura Lonardi and Shannon Aubert cruised to a 4 & 3 win over Lauren Whyte to give Stanford a 2-0 lead.
Baylor's Dylan Kim birdied the 17th hole to claim a 3 & 1 win over Stanford's Lauren Kim. Giovana Maymon rolled to a 4 & 3 win over Quirine Eijkenboom to square the team match at 2-2.
Stackhouse was 3-down after eight, but closed within 1-down three separate times on the back nine. After Davis won the 16th to again move a 2-up lead, Stackhouse won three in a row to win the match and give Stanford title.
Alabama's Emma Talley closed with a 3-under 69 on Monday to win the individual title by one stroke over Gaby Lopez and Leona Maguire.
