Dale Coyne Racing crewman injured in pit-road accident in Indy 500

Dale Coyne Racing pit crew member Daniel Jang, part of Tristan Vautier's No. 18 crew, suffered a broken right ankle when he was hit by James Davison's car during a round of pit stops just past the halfway point in Sunday's Indianapolis 500.

Jang, the outside rear tire changer for the No. 18, was struck by Davison, who drove the No. 19 Honda for Coyne's team, when Davison collided with another Coyne car, driven by Pippa Mann, after exiting his pit stall. Davison and Vautier's stalls were next to each other.

The right front tire changer for the 18, Greg Senerius, was also clipped by Davison.

Jang was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. Senerius was examined and released from the track's infield medical care center shortly after the accident happened.

"I got sent right out into the path of Pippa, and contact was made that slammed my car into Tristan's car," Davison said. "Tristan and I sustained damage that ended our race. Obviously, a crew member was hit and hurt, and I'm just really hoping that hes going to be OK."

The race was under caution at the time of the pit road incident. Ed Carpenter and Oriol Servia crashed in the wall in turn 1 after they had bumped into each other on lap 113.
