Dallas Cowboys sign La'el Collins, undrafted LSU lineman

The Dallas Cowboys signed former LSU offensive tackle La'el Collins, who went undrafted last week despite being seen as a potential first-round pick.

The Cowboys announced the signing Thursday, three days after Collins met with police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as part of an investigation over the shooting death last month of 29-year-old Brittney Mills, who was eight months' pregnant.

Collins is not a suspect in the crime and DNA tests confirmed Wednesday that he was not the father of the woman's unborn child, according to The Associated Press. The child was born alive but later died.

His draft stock dropped after police said they wanted to speak with him as part of their investigation into Mills' death and after Collins said he would not sign with a team if he was drafted past the third round.

The Cowboys signed the 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman to a fully guaranteed three-year, $1.65 million deal, according to ESPN.
