Chicago White Sox down Detroit Tigers, put losing streak to rest

Conor Gillaspie picked up a pair of hits including a key two-run triple, and the Chicago White Sox clipped Detroit, 5- 2, in the opener of a three-game set.

Jose Abreu, Adam LaRoche and Avisail Garcia each drove in a run for the White Sox, who put a season-high five-game losing skid to rest as they opened up a six-game homestand.

Jeff Samardzija (2-2) worked seven full frames, giving up seven hits and a pair of runs with seven strikeouts. David Robertson turned in a scoreless ninth to notch his fourth save.

Ian Kinsler posted two hits and an RBI while Alex Avila homered for the Tigers, who had won two in a row at Kansas City to snag a series split.

Shane Greene (3-2) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, charged with five runs on as many hits while walking four.
