Atlanta Braves beat New York Mets late, improve to 4-0

Phil Gosselin came to the rescue with a two- out, two-run single which helped Atlanta claim a 5-3 win over the New York Mets in the opener of a three-game set.

Cameron Maybin homered and Chris Johnson added three hits for the Braves, who jumped out to their first 4-0 start in more than 20 years and have allowed just six runs this season.

Jim Johnson (1-0) fanned three in a scoreless eighth inning, then Jason Grilli picked up his third save by holding the visitors off the board in the ninth.

David Wright hit a two-run homer and John Mayberry added a solo shot for the Mets, who had taken two of three at Washington to open the year.

Rafael Montero (0-1) was charged with the deciding runs over his single relief frame.
