LAS VEGAS, March 6 (UPI) -- It's Jeff Gordon's final NASCAR season as a full time driver, but he isn't showing any indication of slowing down. Gordon, 43, set a new track record with a speed of 194.679 mph in his final start in Las Vegas, according to the Sporting News. The 26-year veteran also won the pole at the Daytona 500, but had an accident at the end of the race. Gordon now has taken the top start spot 79 times and led 24,751 laps in his Sprint Cup career.

Gordon ranks No. 3 all-time with 92 Sprint Cup points race victories and is No. 3 in poles. The Vallejo, Ca. native is No. 3 behind Richard Petty and David Pearson in race victories.

"There was a lot of wide-open throttle there. It was fun," Gordon told USA Today. "What a turnaround from last week. I'm just so proud of this team and keeping their heads up. Last week was a tough one, and this is a great, great way to start out the weekend here in Las Vegas."
