Ryan Boatright scored 23 points and led the Connecticut Huskies over the East Carolina Pirates, 65-52, in American Athletic Conference action at Gampel Pavilion.
Rodney Purvis added to the scoring with 10 points for the Huskies (12-5, 5-4 AAC). Daniel Hamilton nearly finished with a double-double as he collected nine points and 11 rebounds, adding five assists.
East Carolina (9-13, 2-7) was led in scoring and rebounding by BJ Tyson, who finished with 20 points and six boards, hitting all four of his 3-point tries. Caleb White (11 points) and Paris Campbell (nine points) added to the offensive output for the Pirates.
At the half, ECU held a 34-27 lead after shooting an impressive 54.2 percent from the field in the opening period, which included an 8-of-13 mark from beyond the arc. The Huskies went 40 percent from the field, including 4-of-12 from 3-point distance.
UConn shot much better in the final period, converting 53.8 percent from the floor, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range. The Pirates were held to a 33.3 field goal percentage in the second half, including just three 3-point field goals.
The Huskies scored more points in the paint (24-16) and finished with more rebounds (32-21) than ECU.
