Report: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather date set

By Alex Butler

MIAMI, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The bout that once seemed like a long shot, has hit the target, according to TMZ. After meeting at Tuesday's Milwaukee Bucks at Miami Heat game, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to a fight, a date and a location (Vegas). Still, muliple sources refute the TMZ report.

TMZ reports that a formal agreement has not yet been signed and that the two parties are putting the "finishing touches" on the deal for a possible May 2 fight.

Pacquiao and Mayweather met for the first time at the Heat vs. Bucks game, where they exchanged phone numbers at halftime. The two welterweights then met inside Pacquiao's hotel suite to discuss terms.

"It was very pleasant and very encouraging, and we give Floyd credit for coming over," Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz told ESPN.com. "That's the first time they ever sat eye to eye. I've met Floyd many times, but he and Manny had never had a chance to meet. They talked at halftime, but this was a longer, more serious meeting. You could tell by their body language that this was very positive. It was for a good hour or more.

The 37-year-old Mayweather has a 47-0 career record with 26 knockouts. At 36, Pacquiao has a 57-5 career record with 38 knockouts.

The megafight could be the richest in boxing history. Pacquiao is under contract with HBO, while Mayweather has a deal with Showtime.

If Mayweather and Pacquiao do not fight on May 2, Amir Khan is the "leading candidate" to be next in line for both of the fighters, according to ESPN.
