USA's Alex Morgan close to full recovery

By Alex Butler

MIAMI, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Just three months after spraining her ankle in the United States' World Cup qualifying win over Guatemala, Alex Morgan is back in full contact and almost fully recovered.

"Alex needs more time on the final piece, which is finishing," U.S. Women's National Team coach Jill Ellis told SBISoccer.com. "We've spent a lot of time on technical work with her, because she has been off the field for quite a while. She's coming along great. We're very excited with where she is."

"She's been great," Ellis told equalizersoccer.com. "Taking her to Brazil, even though we knew we weren't going to play her in games, we knew we could have her in the environment and obviously work with her to get back. She was fantastic down there, both on and off the pitch. She was good. She understood why she was there and took advantage of the time with coaches and technical work."

The 25-year-old forward scored twice in two games during the 2012 women's olympic tournament and three times in six appearances during the 2011 women's world cup. Morgan has scored 49 goals in 77 matches for the USA and had five goals in seven games in 2014.
