Jethro Pugh, a defensive lineman on two Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl champion teams in the 1970s, died Wednesday at the age of 70.
The Cowboys released a statement confirming Pugh's passing, which the team said was from natural causes.
Pugh spent his entire 14-year NFL career with Dallas after joining the Cowboys as an 11th-round draft choice in 1965. The North Carolina native played in 183 regular-season games and recorded 95 1/2 sacks, the sixth-highest total in franchise history.
"This is a sad day for Cowboys fans, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Jethro's family," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "He was loved and appreciated by his teammates and Cowboys fans for decades, and his spirit will be felt when our team travels to Green Bay this weekend."
Pugh was a part of the Cowboys' first two Super Bowl victories (VI, XII) as well as five NFC championships, playing in a total of 23 postseason games during his tenure with the organization.
