Cowboys put DT Melton on IR

The Dallas Cowboys have placed defensive tackle Henry Melton on injured reserve due to a bruised knee.

Melton, who suffered a right knee injury during the final regular season game, a win at Washington, will not be able to participate in the playoffs. The NFC East-champion Cowboys host Detroit Sunday in the wild card round.

Melton, a fourth-round draft choice of Chicago in 2009, sat out most of last season with the Bears due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He had five sacks in 16 games played, including three starts, this season.

The Cowboys also signed veteran linebacker James Anderson Tuesday. Anderson started 16 games for the Bears in 2013 and had four sacks. He began the 2014 campaign with New England, but was cut before the regular season began. He then played seven games for Tennessee and was then on Atlanta's roster, but never played a game for the Falcons.
