Memphis tops BYU in 2OT Miami Beach Bowl

For being played in a baseball stadium, this was one heck of a football game.

That was before the Miami Beach Bowl turned into a Miami Beach brawl.

Paxton Lynch's 11-yard touchdown pass to Roderick Proctor in the second overtime lifted Memphis to a thrilling 55-48 win over BYU on Monday in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park.

The Tigers clinched the victory when DaShaughn Terry intercepted Christian Stewart's overthrown pass, but their celebration was marred by an on-field melee in which several players on both teams appeared to throw punches.

Memphis (10-3) won in its first bowl appearance since the 2008 season while BYU (8-5) fell to 6-4 in its 10th consecutive bowl game under coach Bronco Mendenhall.
