Just a day after making his NFL debut in relief of injured quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tom Savage was ruled out of Houston's next game with a knee injury.
Late in Houston's loss to Indianapolis, Savage sustained a knee injury and was seen limping after the game. He was optimistic he would be able to play against the Ravens, but head coach Bill O'Brien said on Monday he will not be able to.
To replace Savage, the Texans will choose between Thad Lewis and Case Keenum.
Keenum was signed off the St. Louis practice squad on Monday, but he does have previous experience with Houston. He made eight starts for the Texans in 2013, throwing for nine touchdowns and six interceptions with 1,760 yards. He was cut from the Texans late in training camp before this season.
In two seasons with Cleveland and Buffalo, Lewis has made six starts and has thrown for 1,296 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions. Lewis played under O'Brien for one season at Duke University when O'Brien was the Blue Devils offensive coordinator.
Savage entered Sunday's game in the second quarter when Fitzpatrick broke his leg on a scramble. He completed 10-of-17 passes for 127 yards and an interception in a 17-10 loss.
He will go on injured reserve where he will join fellow quarterback Ryan Mallett, who suffered a pectoral injury in Week 12 against Cincinnati.
O'Brien also said he expects receiver Andre Johnson to return to the lineup after missing Sunday's game with a concussion.
