CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Some 800 underprivileged children were surprised with turkey, stuffing, gravy and more on Wednesday. Maybe even more memorable, the kids got to meet one of their heroes -- NFL star Cam Newton.

The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback of the Carolina Panthers joined the kids for his third annual Cam's Thanksgiving Jam, donning an apron while serving food, and later horsing around and helping the children devour 75 turkeys and 500 pounds of potatoes.

Newton isn't on one of the six teams playing games on Turkey Day, but he wasn't going to wait until Sunday to put some smiles on the faces of his fans. He also showed off some of his dance moves (normally reserved for end zone celebrations) while emceeing a game of musical chairs.

All of the kids went home with a bag of food to share with their families on Thanksgiving Day.

"That's what Thanksgiving really is all about," Newton said. "Thanking, and families coming closer together."
