Rosie Napravnik getting Churchill honors

Two weeks after making the surprise announcement of her retirement, leading female jockey Rosie Napravnik will be honored at Churchill Downs in a special ceremony.

Napravnik, who won the Breeders' Cup Distaff aboard Untapable on Friday, Oct. 31., will be honored in Churchill's winner's circle Saturday after the sixth race. The race has been named "The Run for Rosie" in her honor.

The 26-year-old New Jersey native announced after the Distaff victory that she and her husband Joe Sharp were starting a family and the two-time Kentucky Oaks winning rider was retiring following the Breeders' Cup.

Napravnik won this year's Oaks with Untapable two years after she guided Believe You Can to victory in the companion race to the Kentucky Derby. The 2012 win allowed her to become the first female jockey to capture the Oaks.

This year Napravnik has 189 winners from 853 mounts for $13,531,663. For her career. she won 1,878 races from 9,715 mounts for $71,436,887.
