The San Francisco Giants held on to beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in Game 7 on Wednesday night to win their third World Series title in five years.

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner pitched the last five innings on two days' rest after throwing a four-hit shutout in Game 5 on Sunday.

Bumgarner retired 14 batters in a row before Alex Gordon sliced a hit into left-center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that bounced past Gregor Blanco and went to the wall.

Gordon made it all the way to third base but Salvador Perez popped out into foul territory to end the game as the Giants swarmed Bumgarner near the mound.

The Giants took their 3-2 lead on Michael Morse's RBI single all the way back in the fourth inning.

Pablo Sandoval reached base all four times he was up and scored twice, including the go-ahead run. He had three hits, giving him an MLB-record 26 this postseason.
