Michael Sam cut from the Dallas Cowboys

Sam has been previously cut by the St. Louis Rams but as teams get cut and re-signed regularly, he still has a chance in the NFL.

DALLAS, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Defensive end Michael Sam, the first openly gay player in the NFL, has been cut from the Dallas Cowboys, the team reported Tuesday.

The St. Louis Rams cut Sam at the end of training camp and was signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

Sam tweeted his thanks to the Cowboys and Jerry Jones on Tuesday.

The spot will be given to linebacker Troy Davis, a second-year pro from Florida, who has been working out with the team.

It is still possible for Sam to be picked up by another team.
