TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A new report claims FSU quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston is going leave FSU football before his junior year to declare for the NFL Draft.

Some people have posited that Winston will jump to the NFL to avoid a string of disciplinary consequences after the investigation into a 2012 sexual assault charge concludes.

However, Winston has adamantly maintained his innocence on all charges of misconduct. Sources with knowledge of the situation said even though Winston loves playing football and baseball in college, he has the opportunity to spring from an undefeated FSU season to the NFL.

Coach Jimbo Fischer is Winston's main ally and has resisted suspending his star player despite pressure from the university. In addition to the sexual assault charge, he was also accused of accepting money for autographs.

"There is no upside in waiting to go the NFL now, after all of this," one source told CBS Sports.
