DENVER, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning made sports history Sunday night when he broke the record for most touchdown passes in the NFL.

Favre said he respectfully did not care because he knows Manning is a great football player. When Manning broke the record, Favre appeared on the big screen in the stadium to congratulate him.

I want to say congratulations for breaking the touchdown record -- I'm not surprised. You've been a wonderful player and I've enjoyed watching you play. I've enjoyed competing against you. I wish you a great success for the rest of the season and the rest of your career. But again, congratulations.

Manning mostly focused on the team's win and took a moment to thank his teammates and coaches.

"I'm very humbled, and I'm very honored," he said. "I think about how grateful I am for all the teammates and coaches I've played with (and) for."

He still has work to do. He started Sunday's game 5,344 yards short of Favre's 71,838 total passing yardage record. If he remains injury free and returns in 2015, he is expected to pass that mark as well.

Manning was the No. 1 draft pick in 1998 and signed with the Broncos in 2012.
