Rossi to substitute for Bianchi in Russian GP

American Alexander Rossi is scheduled to make his Formula One racing debut in the Russian Grand Prix this weekend, substituting for the injured Marussia driver Jules Bianchi.

According to an official FIA (the governing body of F1) entry list, Rossi has been listed as driver of the No. 42 entry for Marussia. The team has yet to confirm that Rossi will be in Bianchi's car.

Bianchi remains in critical but stable condition in an intensive care unit at Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi, Japan after suffering a severe head injury during an accident in the closing laps of last Sunday's rain-soaked Japanese Grand Prix. The 25-year-old Frenchman slid off course and collided with a recovery vehicle that was removing Adrian Sutil's car after Sutil went off course and crashed into the barrier.

A 23-year-old Auburn, California native, Rossi has been a test and reserve driver for Marussia since July. Rossi was originally scheduled to replace British driver Max Chilton for the Aug. 24 Belgian Grand Prix, but Marussia reversed its driver decision days before the race.
