NCAA Game Summary - Toledo at Western Michigan

A failed PAT in overtime by Western Michigan was just enough to give the Toledo Rockets a thrilling 20-19 victory over the Broncos in Mid-American Conference play at Waldo Stadium.

Logan Woodside had a hand in the win for the Rockets (4-2, 3-0 MAC) as he converted 13-of-27 passing for 210 yards and a score as the team won for the third time in as many tries. Running back Terry Swanson posted a game-high 172 yards and a score on 19 attempts.

The Broncos (2-3, 0-1), losers of two straight, were paced by Zach Terrell who converted all but seven of his 37 pass attempts, resulting in 370 yards and a score, but he was also sacked four times on the night. Jarvion Franklin carried the ball 20 times for a net of 64 yards and a score, but the team as a whole finished with just 62 yards on the ground.

Following a scoreless first quarter, WMU put up the only points of the first half on a two-yard TD run by Franklin at the 10:44 mark of the second frame.

Trailing by seven, the Rockets finally broke through early in the third period when kicker Jeremiah Detmer converted a 25-yard field goal. although the Broncos were ready with a response as Andrew Haldeman countered with a 27-yard field goal of his own.

Toledo managed to knot the score at 10-10 when Swanson found the end zone on a two-yard run at the 13:47 mark of the fourth.

Haldeman stepped up with a 33-yard field goal, capping a 10-play, 60-yard drive for Western Michigan, but the hosts left 1:11 on the clock and Toledo took full advantage as Detmer sent the game into overtime thanks to a 37-yard field goal at time expired in regulation.

With the first possession in overtime, the Rockets looked to Woodside for the victory and he delivered with a 22-yard TD pass to Alonzo Russell.

The Broncos were able to respond on their possession, thanks to a 20-yard strike from Terrell to Darius Phillips, but Haldemans extra-point try hit the left upright.
