NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki forgot to pick up her $1.45 million winnings at the U.S. Open.

The 24-year-old Danish tennis star won the money as the runner-up, but accidentally forgot her check and had to return to collect it. Wozniacki related the incident in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, and told the publication she doesn't play the game for money.

"I have enough to eat, buy nice shoes," she related. "For me, it's about tennis and the trophies. I'm not motivated by money."

"I never think about my brand," she admitted. "I want to do well for myself and my sponsors... but I feel no pressure, because I don't play for money."

Wozniacki earns nearly $10 million dollars a year in endorsements with companies such as Adidas, Babolat and Rolex. She remains a top competitor in women's tennis, and finished the season with a 43-16 record. The athlete may not be concerned with capitalizing on her success, but she did tell the publication she'd like to win a Grand Slam event.
