SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is denying a report that accuses him of using a racial slur during last week's game against the Chicago Bears.

Kaepernick said Sunday the allegation that he used the slur during the 28-20 loss at Levi's Stadium in Chicago was false.

"I've said that in the past and I'll say it again," Kaepernick said.

On-field cameras showed the Niners quarterback saying something to Chicago defensive end Lamarr Houston, but no audio can be heard. Houston has said he did not recall hearing anything, even sarcastically telling Kaepernick "nice pass" in the fourth quarter after the quarterback threw an interception.

But according to an unnamed source, an official said he heard Kaepernick use the slur, and fined him $11,025. Kaepernick is appealing the fine for unsportsmanlike conduct of inappropriate language.

"I talk on the football field, yes, I do," Kaepernick said. "I didn't say anything racially derogatory to him."

Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh last Wednesday said he had been given clarification from the NFL, but declined to elaborate.

"I don't have a stance because I don't know," Harbaugh said. "I didn't hear it. Colin's always been truthful 100 percent of the time."
