Pernice fires 60, leads by 4 in Hawaii

Tom Pernice, Jr. fired a course-record, 12- under 60 on Friday and soared into the lead after one round of the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship.

Pernice earned his third tour win earlier this year at the Principal Charity Classic. His 60 bettered the previous course record of 64. Mark Wiebe set that mark last year at Kapolei Golf Course en route to winning the title.

Michael Allen posted an 8-under 64 and is alone in second place. Joey Sindelar and Scott Dunlap share third at minus-7.

Jay Haas and Vijay Singh, who tied for sixth place last year, opened with 6- under 66s. They were joined in fifth place by Paul Goydos, Jim Carter and Mike Goodes.

Fred Funk and Mark Calcavecchia are among 10 players tied for 10th at minus-5.

Davis Love III made his Champions Tour debut. He posted a 3-under 69 and is tied for 28th.
