PHOENIX, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Jonathan Dwyer, running back for the Arizona Cardinals, allegedly broke his wife's nose by head-butting her, leading to his arrest Wednesday.

Dwyer was arrested by Phoenix police Wednesday at the team's training facility in Tempe, Ariz., on suspicion of aggravated assault.

At the time, the 25-year-old denied any involvement in a physical altercation, but now police say he head-butted his wife after she bit his lip to stop unwanted sexual advances.

According to the police report, Dwyer and his wife got into an argument around 8 a.m. July 21, at which time the football player tried to kiss her and remove her clothing.

Neighbors called police to the Dwyers' apartment and when they arrived, the alleged victim told police she and her 17-month-old child were the only ones home.

She then fled the home after police left and only returned after Dwyer allegedly sent her a text photo of a knife, saying he didn't want to live anymore.

The Dwyers got into another argument on July 22 and Dwyer allegedly punched his wife in the face.

"He also began punching the walls, causing visible damage. The defendant then picked up a shoe and threw it, striking their 17-month-old son in the stomach," the police report said. The boy was uninjured.

When the alleged victim said she would call the police, the report said Dwyer threw her cell phone off a balcony.

Dwyer's wife took their son and fled the state.

The Cardinals deactivated Dwyer from all team activities.

Dwyer was released from Maricopa, Ariz., County Jail on Thursday on $25,000 cash bond.
